

The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has been recognized the best bank in risk management at the just ended 3rd edition of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Awards held at Movenpick Ambassador Hotel.
A special recognition award also went to the Chief Executive of UBA, Mrs. Abiola Bawuah as the woman of excellence in finance.
Other awardees including Barclays, Ecobank, Omni Bank, GBC, Ministry of Finance and seasoned banking and financial personalities took home awards for their immense contribution towards the growth of the money sector.
Mr. George Blankson, the immediate past Commissioner General of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) was specially recognized the Tax Personality of the Year.
Akin Naphtal, Chief Executive Officer (CFO) of Instinct Wave, Organizers of the awards said the role of the CFO is critical to the success of any organization – keeping the business financially sound, while implementing successful strategies.
He added that at their best, a CFO helps lead key initiatives that support overall growth, executes and funds strategies set by the CEO and liaises with external stakeholders.
Mr. Naphtal explained that over the past decade, the role of a chief financial officer has undoubtedly broadened, while in today’s challenging economic environment, CFOs are faced with a challenging and complex medium which necessitates immense business acumen and practical knowledge.
“With such a diverse set of attributes, characteristics and circumstances to consider and a role that seems to be continuously evolving.These varied roles make a CFO’s job more complex than ever. Therefore it’s very important that we celebrate and honour our finance experts,” he intimated.
